Beauty in ordinary places

Beauty in ordinary places

I admit it, sometimes I get wrapped up in making everything look like a GAP ad. The perfect outfit, the perfect place, the perfect settings. I worry to much about the how to and the technical parts of it that I forget why I started on the photography journey to begin with. To take pictures that I love of people that I love, so that I can remember this moment in years to come.

I hope I can remember this day in 20 years. I hope this picture will remind me of her first day of summer vacation. I want to remember her playing at the playground, running with her friend, not a care in the world. I want to remember all the times she told me, in one day, that she loved me. I want to remember the feel of her hand in mine when we crossed the street together.

The settings were not important. The lens wasn’t important. The hair in her eyes did not need to swept away, the shirt could be bunched up, those things did not matter. They were not the focus. The focus was her.

Fairies!!

Fairies!!

If you have ever seen the Fairy Odd-Parents, then you are saying that out loud the way I am hearing it in my head. If you don’t have a child over 5 you will have no idea what I am talking about. But don’t worry that has nothing to do with these pictures. Well other than, fairies!

Every year my family and I got to the May Day Fairy Festival at Spoutwood Farm in Glen Rock Pa. We camp out at Codorus and we have a good time being silly. Think 3 days of a Ren Faire with wings and lots of live music. These are just some of my favorites from our 3 days.

My son fell in love with a suit the other day at the store. I mean he was begging for this suit and bargaining like it was a toy or candy. The kid has class and style. I can see his future closets and they will be filled with designer suits and ties. I love hats on my kids and they both have a thing for fedoras. Lexy loves any classic style hat, but a fedora is the only hat that G will wear. Add that to this suit and wow you have a photo op! These pictures are posed to a point. As in I gave him direction, G look at you watch, throw the vest over your shoulder, but the body language is all him. Once these came off of my camera, I knew that they needed to be black and white. They remind me of the old fashioned film noir pictures.

When I showed him the finished pictures he said to me, but no one will know that it is purple.

The wonderful smell of fresh baked cookies….

And new Photoshop toys! I love downloading free things to go with Photoshop. I likeĀ  free things because quite frankly Photoshop is so darn expensive, I can not afford 30$ a piece for new action or texture set. I have found a wonderful blog that has lots of free Photoshop and Lightroom freebies. Check out her site and blog, The CoffeeShop .

As I posted previously, I am letting the kids take over Christmas. Lexy needed to have cookies made for Girl Scouts for their Christmas party. She decided that she wanted sugar cookies, and I have a super secret sugar cookie recipe that is not to overly sweet but still yummy and hard to mess up. We decided to make a double batch and went to work. She just got for her birthday a new baking set with this perfect sized rolling pin. I stepped back, out of my control freak shoes, and let her roll out and cut out the cookie shapes. Baking with mom.

Now we go full circle. I saw an update on Facebook that The CoffeeShop just came out with a new texture set called “Baking with Mom”. How perfect is that! I just had to get them and use them. So here is my picture with the texture called burnt almond.

(Just a side note, at the bottom, I am completely new to adding links to other blogs from this blog, so if I did not do it correctly, please let me know)
